My Teacher Ate My Homework

My teacher ate my homework,
which I thought was rather odd.
He sniffed at it and smiled
with an approving sort of nod

He took a little nibble—
it’s unusual, but true—
then had a somewhat larger bite
and gave a thoughtful chew

I think he must have liked it,
for he really went to town.
He gobbled it with gusto,
and he wolfed the whole thing down

He licked off all his fingers,
gave a burp, and said, “You pass.”
I guess that’s how they grade you
when you’re in a cooking class

School Rules

Do not oversleep and miss the school bus

you'll be late

That's a habit teachers generally

don't appreciate

Never call your teacher a name

when she's not near you

Teachers' ears are excellent

so they can always hear you

Do not read a textbook when your hands

aren't clean-it's tricky

to separate the pages when the pages

get real sticky

When you go out for a team

it's always wise to practice

When you are a substitute

the bench can feel like cactus

Do not copy homework from a friend

who is a dummy

If you do, I'm sure that you

will get a grade that's crummy

And if your report card's bad

don't blame it on your buddy

Kiss up to your parents quick

or they might make you study

Sayings of Imam Ali

Imam Ali once said to his son Imam Hasan, My son, learn four things from me and through them you will learn four more. If you keep them in mind your actions will not bring any harm to you:

 The greatest wealth is Wisdom; the greatest poverty is stupidity;

the worst
unso-ciableness is that of vanity and self-glorification;

and the best nobility of descent
exhibits itself in politeness

and in refinement of manner.

The next four things, my son, are:

"Do not make friendship with a fool because when he will try to do you good he will do you
harm;

do not make a miser your friend because he will run away from you at the time of your
dire need;

do not be friendly with a vicious and wicked person because he will sell you and
your friendship at the cheapest price

and do not make friend of a liar because like a mirage he

will make you visualize very near the things which lie at a great

distance and will make you
see at the great distance the things which are near to you

Sayings of Imam Ali

No wealth is more useful than intelligence and wisdom; no solitude is more horrible than when people avoid you on account of your vanity and conceit or when you wrongly consider
yourself above everybody to confide and consult; no eminence is more exalting than piety; no

companion can prove more useful than politeness; no heritage is better than culture; no leader
is superior to Divine Guidance; no deal is more profitable than good deeds; no profit is
greater than Divine Reward; no abstinence is better than to restrain one's mind from doubts
(about religion); no virtue is better than refraining from prohibited deeds; no knowledge is superior to deep thinking and prudence; no worship or prayers are more sacred than fulfillment of obligations and duties, no religious faith is loftier than feeling ashamed of doing wrong and bearing calamities patiently; no eminence is greater than to adopt humbleness; no
exaltation is superior to knowledge; nothing is more respectable than forgiveness and forbearance
no support and defense are stronger than consultation

TWO TRAVELERS AND SOME MONEY

Two travelers were journeying together when one of them found a bag and said to another, Look, I have found a bag of money.

The other man said, Remember we are traveling together. So, don't say I've found it, say we have found it.

After some time, they heard that the police were looking for the thieves who had stolen a bag of money.

The man holding the bag said, We are undone.

The other man said, Don't say we are undone but I'm undone. When I wouldn't share any money, I'll not have any punishment.

How selfish the man was
!

The End

THE WIND AND THE SUN

Once the Wind came to have a false pride of his strength- so much that he challenged the strength of the Sun.

The Son tried to smile away the Wind's challenge but the Wind insisted on a trial of strength. The trial was to be upon a traveler. He, who would make the traveler put off his coat, was to be the winner.

The Wind had the first attempt. He gathered all his force and came down upon the man trying to blow off his coat off his body. But the man felt colder and wrapped it even harder round himself.

Now it was the Sun's turn. The Sun shined brightly. As obvious, the man felt quite hot and put off his coat.

So, the Sun came out to be a winner

Where did the voices go

?

There was once a little boy who told tales about absolutely everything. Whenever anyone asked who had done this, or who had said that, the little boy jumped up and shouted out the guilty person's name

At his school the children ended up never speaking to each other; they were tired of the little boy using their words to tell tales. Because they no longer spoke, the children started to lose their voices, until no one could say anything at all

This made things very boring for the little boy. He was left on his own, feeling lonely, and the others resented him for being the cause of everyone losing their voice

A Child's Ten Requests

  1. My hands are small; please don’t expect perfection whenever I draw a picture or throw a ball.  My legs are short; please slow down so that I can keep up with you
  2. My eyes have not seen the world as yours have; please let me explore safely.  Don’t restrict me unnecessarily

  3. Housework will always be there.  I’m only little for a short time; please  take time to explain things to me about this wonderful world, and do so willingly

  4. My feelings are tender; please be sensitive to my needs; don’t nag me all day long.  Treat me as you would like to be treated

  5. I am a special gift from God; please treasure me as God intended you to do, holding me accountable for my actions, giving me guidelines to live by, and disciplining me in a loving manner

  6. I need your encouragement to grow.  Please go easy on criticism; remember, you can criticize the things I do without criticizing me

  7. Please give me the freedom to make decisions concerning myself.  Permit me to fail, so that I can learn from my mistakes

  8. Please don’t do things over for me.  Somehow that makes me feel that my efforts don’t quite measure up to your expectations

  9. Please don’t be afraid to leave for a weekend together.  Kids need vacations from parents, just as parents need vacations from kids

  10. Please take me to mosque regularly; setting a good example from an early age
