Food groups








What foods are included in the Dairy Group?

Divider
Milk, cheese, and yogurt are a part of this group. You need at least 2-3 servings from this group a day. This group helps you build strong bones because you get a lot of calcium from these foods.




What foods are in the Protein Foods Group?

Divider
All foods made from meat, poultry, seafood, beans and peas, eggs, processed soy products, nuts, and seeds are considered part of the Protein Foods Group. Beans and peas are also part of the Vegetable Group. For more information on beans and peas

Select a variety of protein foods to improve nutrient intake and health benefits, including at least 8 ounces of cooked seafood per week. Young children need less, depending on their age and calories needs. The advice to consume seafood does not apply to vegetarians. Vegetarian options in the Protein Foods Group include beans and peas, processed soy products, and nuts and seeds. Meat and poultry choices should be lean or low-fat




What foods are in the Fruit Group?

Can you name some of the foods in the fruit group?
What are your favorite fruits?  You need to have 2-4 servings of fruit and fruit juices a day.


Any fruit or 100% fruit juice counts as part of the Fruit Group. Fruits may be fresh, canned, frozen, or dried, and may be whole, cut-up, or pureed





What foods are in the Vegetable Group?

Any vegetable or 100% vegetable juice counts as a member of the Vegetable Group. Vegetables may be raw or cooked; fresh, frozen, canned, or dried/dehydrated; and may be whole, cut-up, or mashed
You need at least 2-3 servings from this group everyday.  What kind of vegetables do you like?






What foods are in the Grains Group?
Divider
This group forms the bottom of the pyramid.  The grain group should make up the biggest part of what you eat all day

Any food made from wheat, rice, oats, cornmeal, barley or another cereal grain is a grain product. Bread, pasta, oatmeal, breakfast cereals, tortillas, and grits are examples of grain products



Others Category

This group contains sweets, oils and fats.  You do not need to eat a lot of food from this group because it is not very healthy.  Cake, candy and chips and some fried foods are known as junk food.  It is OK to eat them every now and then but do so in moderation.  Sugars and fats need to be natural,  that means they come from food that has natural sugar and/or fat already inside
